Robert was my Grand Fathers Brother. After gathering investors money, he blasted off in a stolen mail truck to California. He left my parents some money. My sister Kathey Hockenberry of Wadestown WV. has a photo of him standing on the projectile. He looks alot like my Father and I.

Appeal of Executor of Wilbur Condon’s estate to the Washington State Supreme Court after the death, first of Wilbur, and second of his disabled son Charlie. Should estate go to Charlie’s mother after his death or to the school board. The Supreme Court reversed the lower Court ruling and gave Charlie’s portion of the estate to his mother Mary Ann who had to pay the lawyers 50%. The estate was about $15,000, a large sum at the turn of the 20th century.

6539. Boyd Nielsen, “Contact Condits and Cousins - Source Request & Offer to Share,” 11/28/2019, Email files of David Condit.
I am researching one the families listed, John W. Gilchrist and Jemima “Mina” Hayes. John W. Gilchrist is my 6th cousin 3X removed. Jemima / Mina / Mima Hayes is a daughter of Richard Hayes and Hannah Dennis Noe. John and “Miss Minnie” met about 1857-1858 when John found work with Richard Hayes as a farm hand, taking lodging in Richard’s house in White Rock, Ogle, Illinois.

John and “Miss Minnie” both share a religious conversion experience documented in Elizabeth Roe’s “Recollections of a Frontier Life” . The Methodist revival happened before the pair obtain Ogle County marriage license #1820 on 3 September 1859 as “Mr. John W. Gilchrist and Miss Mina Hayes”. The completed marriage license was never returned, so the public record is ignorant as to the actual date, place, and officiator of their wedding.

The genealogy page / card for John and Jemima at condit-family[.]com gives 9 September 1859 as a marriage date. “Condits and their cousins in America”, vol. 6 gives 9 September 1863 as a marriage date. Do you have any family sources to confirm either date, and possibly a location?

Jemima / Mina / Mima’s birth date and place is also in question. It seems that Mima and her daughters have a penchant for reporting successively later birth years than is likely the case. Daughter Cora A. Gilchrist also gets creative with her name, trying on “Coral” when first moving to California, before settling on “Carol” as a given name. Obituaries and death certificates give differing date and location data from what one might reasonably expect.

Indexers’ attempts to decipher different manuscript ‘hands’, especially when bumping up against an unusual name like “Mima”, doesn’t make the task any easier. Incidentally, since I was finding only instances of “Miss Minnie”, “Miss Mina”, and “Mima” in records and stories, I was really desirous to see a source where she is named “Jemima”. I finally found one two days ago where “Jemima Gilchrist “ is listed as one of the living heirs in her father, Richard Hayes’, “Last Will and Testament” probated in Ogle County beginning September 1868.

Would you be able to share source #2146, “Richard Hayes and Hannah Noe Family” by Marilyn Kemmers, Emma Hayes Robb, and Amy Lathrop Hayes with me? I hope to find a few more nuggets of information about John and Jemima and their family to help me frame reasonable genealogy proof statements about timeline, names, dates, places, and relationships.

I would be happy to share my research on this family with you when I complete it to at least complete their family card on your Condit family website. This family line died out with daughter Edith’s passing in 1943. Edith was the only of the three children to marry and have children of her own. All - her parents, siblings, husband, and children - predeceased Edith.

I look forward to receiving a scanned copy of source #2146, “Richard Hayes and Hannah Noe Family” by Marilyn Kemmers, Emma Hayes Robb, and Amy Lathrop Hayes, if permitted, and any other *family* documents touching on John W. Gilchrist and Jemima Hayes.

Again, I am happy to share sources and my research about this family with you. Perhaps the quickest way would be to forward a timeline with sources or source links in spreadsheet form? I will write an annotated narrative, at some point, but that will take longer than completing a sourced family spreadsheet with notes.

Best of the Season,

Boyd Whipple Nielsen

NOE & MOORE.
The cut on page 344 represents the enterprising livery firm of Noe & Moore, formerly known as the "Barons House" barn.
Andrew Noe, the senior member of the firm became associated with C. D. Byrum in the livery business in 1899. In March, two years later, J. R. Ballard purchased the interest of Mr. Byrum and the firm became Noe & Ballard. They were successful and witnessed a steady growth until they received their share of the patronage. In the spring of 1903 Carl Moore bought Ballard's share of the stock and as Noe & Moore, the business will continue to progress, for both are favorably and well known. Mr. Noe, the senior member of the firm, has recently purchased the barn—which is a fine stone structure—of Mrs. F. E. Barons.
Mr. Noe is a native of Ogle county, Illinois, born in 1869. but has been reared in Cloud county, having settled on a farm with his parents, twelve miles south of Concordia, when he was but nine years old. His father, Samuel Noe, still lives on the farm. His mother died in 1899. Mr. Noe was married in 1883 to Etta, a daughter of Otis Kenworthy, a farmer of Smith county. They are the parents of two bright and beautiful children, Lila and Winona. Mr. Noe transcends from a race of divines, both his paternal and maternal grandfathers having been ministers.
