Josiah Condit – from Ida Grove paper
Died – Josiah Condit, at his home, No 1223 Cottage Street, Des Moines, Iowa on Friday, May 9, 1895, at 6:00 PM of dropsy of the heart. Aged 66 years, 8 months, and 4 days.
Deceased was born in Mercer county PA, Sept 5, 1828. At about 22 year of age he united with the Presbyterian Church and has since lived an active and consistent Christian life. He died trusting implicitly in the Savior and expressed to his family his willingness to go home to heaven. He was married May 19, 1853, in Mercer County, PA to Miss Louisa A Scott. They came to Iowa about 1859 and returned to PA 2 or 3 years later, remaining there some 4 of 5 years. He enlisted in the army near the close of the war (55th PA Infantry, Co. K). He was out 3 months and was honorably discharged. They moved back to Washington County Iowa soon after and have since lived in this state. They move to Ida County, Iowa in 1883 and in October 1891 move to Des Moines, where they have since resided. The deceased leaves a wife and 8 children to mourn his death, one child, having died in infancy. Those living are John W Condit, Mrs. Lizzie M Mills, Wm W and Francis E Condit and Mrs. Eva O Henderson, all of Ida Grove Iowa. Mrs. Annetta J Griffin of Randolph Iowa Harrison S Condit of Neola Iowa and Mrs. Myrtle Leonard of Des Moines, Iowa all of whom were present at the funeral except Mrs. Griffin who was detained at home on account of sickness in the family. The remains were brought to Ida Grove Iowa for interment and the funeral service were held form the Presbyterian church at 3:00 Sunday March 12, by Rev AH Campbell. The remains were laid to reset in the Ida Grove cemetery.

Louisa Scott Condit – from Ida Grove (Iowa) paper
Louisa Ann Scott, daughter of Francis and Elizabeth Scott, was born in Mercer county PA, Nov 29, 1835. She was married to Josiah Condit of Mercer county May 19, 1853. They soon moved west and located in Washington County, Iowa. Upon the death of Mr. Condit’s father, they returned to PA to care for the mother and look after the home farm.
After the death of the mother, they again came to Washington county Iowa, which continued to be their home until the fall of 1883 when they came to Ida County and located in Ida Grove, where they remained until their removal to Des Moines in the fall of 1891.
Since the death of Mr. Condit, May 9, 1895, Mrs. Condit has made her home with her children, visiting for the longer of shorter periods with each of them.
She died Monday Aril 7, at 6:45 AM at the home of her youngest daughter Mrs. Myrtle Leonard at Tracey Iowa where she has been since last July. She had not been ill, but the infirmities of old age have been telling upon her and for weeks past she had been gradually failing. At the time of her death she was 83 years 4 months and 2 days of age
Mrs. Condit was the last survivor of her family, and the youngest. Her sister, Mrs. Tuttle of Montrose Missouri had preceded her about 3 years, having lived to the ripe age of 91. She was the mother of 9 children, the first born m James dying in infancy, the other eight who live to mourn her departure are as follows: Mrs. Lizzie Mills, Des Moines, Wm W Condit, Estancia NM, Frank E Condit, Sioux City, Mrs. Eve Henderson, Cushing, Rev HS Condit Topeka, Kansas, Mrs. Nettie Griffin, Albuquerque, NM, Mrs. Myrtle Leonard, Tracy. Besides these 8 children, 31 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren survive her
In early life Mrs. Condit confessed Christ as her Savior and unite with the Presbyterian Church. She lived for her family and her church, a devoted Christian life. “Her children rise up and call her blessed” She had lived a long and useful life and has instructed her children well
Realizing the time of her departure was at hand; she made her plans to that end. She had no fear of death and her family and friends lay her body to rest with the full assurance of a glorious resurrection. She is now with her Savior and ear ones gone before.
Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church Wed April 9, at 3:00. Comforting words were spoken by the Rev Koyker of Battle Creek and the body was laid to rest beside that of her husband in the local cemetery.
