But little is known of his record except the fact that he inherited the estate of his father, and lived either at the Orange Hotel or in its vicinity. In 1785 he deeded one-tenth of an acre of ground on Main street to trustees for an academy building, which was for many years the centre of educational facilities in Orange. On June 10, 1795, he advertised in a Newark paper, announcing "the sale of twenty-three building lots on the main road opposite the meeting house and adjoining the academy." The date of the birth, marriage and death of Matthew and his wife are not preserved.8
Believe Matthew died intestate bef 11/5/1803 when his property was administered and his wife Sarah “Renunciated” the distribution.885
