He attended school in Newark, Verona and Montclair. In 1899, owing to his ill health, his parents removed to Santa Paula, Cal. He worked for a time at Olivelands, a great fruit ranch, and then resumed his school work and graduated from the Santa Paula High School in 1901. Returning to New Jersey, he entered Stevens Institute and graduated in 1905. After graduation he had a short European trip and then was employed at electrical engineering in New York City several years, and later was borough engineer of Verona and engaged in large real estate developments in Caldwell. Places, dates, employment, convey nothing of Everett Condit to those who knew and loved him. At school, home, church, work; as son, husband, friend, neighbor, he was faithful, loving, sympathetic, industrious, true. The closing of places of business and a remarkable gathering at his funeral service testified grateful appreciation of innumerable acts of kindness and helpfulness on his part, recognition of his high character and ideals and deep and lasting regret that a life giving so great promise of unselfish service should have ended so soon. One who knew him well said: "Never have I seen a young man who had such a grip upon every department of church life as did this young man. Never in any place have I seen a young man have such a grip on the civic life of the community." He had been with the Nazarene and learned of him.
