He graduated from Parsons College, Fairfield, Iowa, in 1887; from McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago, Ill., in 1891. He was commissioned as missionary to Alaska by the Presbyterian Board of Home Missions in 1896; was moderator of the Synod of Washington in 1904. In 1912 Parsons College conferred the honorary title of D. D. In 1913 he was appointed superintendent of Presbyterian Home Missions in Alaska. Their residence was in Juneau, Alaska.8
