Could this be correct? If her birth date and marriage date are correct, she got married at age 13 1/2. Also, her marriage date is February 1857 (in Salt Lake if you believe OneWorldTree on Ancestry.com), but then if her father got killed on the plains that year, they were probably traveling to the west that summer.
1880 verifies those approximate age and marriage dates for a "Lizzie S. Clapp"--born in the same place as Melissa S. Brooks--it took me a little while to figure out that they must be one and the same.980
