Mr. Condit united with the church at Hanover, N. J., in 1821, at the age of 17. At this time he looked forward with desire to the Christian ministry, and, after entering it, he magnified his office and regarded it as the highest earthly honor and privilege to preach the unsearchable riches of Christ. He entered Princeton College in Sept., 1826, and graduated with the highest honors of his class in 1829. He was licensed to preach at Sag Harbor, L. I., Aug. 29 of the same year, and was installed pastor of the Presbyterian Church at East Hampton Sept. 1, 1830, where he remained nearly five years, when he was compelled to resign his charge because of declining health. He preached his farewell sermon June 14, 1835. Subsequently he removed to South Hadley, Mass., where he was afterward installed pastor over the church, and where he faithfully labored for twelve years. Mr. and Mrs. Condit were active colleagues with Miss Mary Lyon in the organization and establishment of the Mt. Holyoke Female Seminary. This institution was regarded as part of his ministerial charge, and as from year to year the Spirit was poured out upon it, he labored for its good, as many of its former pupils can testify. He was president of the board of trustees, and from year to year delivered the diplomas and parting addresses to its graduates. Always of delicate constitution, he did not anticipate long life. Early in 1847 he was obliged to relinquish his active duties, and then came a pause in his usefulness, which was terminated by death in the following September. They had no children.
