Notes for Mercedes Maxine Crane
A good and friendly lady willing to help anyone who asked for help with Little Sioux genealogy. She wrote beautiful, informative letters and was much appreciated by this genealogist. (David E. Condit)
Mercedes Maxine Crane Edmonds was born October 20, 1912 at her paternal grandparents' home northwest of Little Sioux. She attended grade school in Little Sioux and graduated high school in Onawa. She was trained to be a teacher and taught in country schools until she and Otis Edmonds were united in marriage on June 10, 1936.
Mercedes and Otis became the parents of four children. During their lifetime, they made their living by farming and running a grocery store. Mercedes always raised a huge garden, as well as flowers and hybridized and sold irises. She became known as "The Iris Lady."2497
