He was married Mary Lindley, daughter of Daniel Lindley, of pioneer fame in Kentucky, and who emigrated to that State from Morris County, N. J., in 1804. He learned the tanner's trade with his father, and was engaged in that business until the close of the Civil War. With his wife he occupied his farm of one hundred and seventy-seven acres near Point Pleasant, Ohio County, Ky. Of his religious character he said: "I am a Methodist, warp and filling; do not chew tobacco, smoke or drink whisky; and all this is no more than any honest man ought to be." He was named for his uncle, Uzal Condit, who moved to Kentucky from Morris County, N. J., with his wife and six children.8
