Notes for Philetus “Leat” Parks
Living in Little Sioux, Iowa during 1880 census.
8551900 & 1910 census in Brooking, South Dakota with Olive and brother Albert
Martin Luther, Albert, and their brother Phaleatous were all together in Busnell South Dakota running a farm that Albert bought. Martin Luther had frozen his feet in the Civil war, and was crippled and unable to help much on the farm. Albert had gone on the Sherman march. He saw things that Elvin Dennis told me about. Albert had to climb over dead bodies six deep during the war. He came home a mentally sick man. He was short too. About 5'2". Anyway here are these vets runing a farm. Phaletous was not a veteran. I understand he did get married to a woman in Kenyon Minn. but deserted her and the two kids. I believe William Turner of Kenyon, Minn. was involved with Phaletous's family. William was the brother of Deila Turner Parks, who was Martin Luther's wife. Mom said that Phaleatous's kids died later and she didn't think they ever got married or had kids of their own. Who knows if that information is correct. Mom was sure that Dulina Hyde and David I parks were buried some where in Kenyon, Minn. and not in Iowa. Albert never married.
