Notes for Dr. Matthias Pierson
He was the first and for many years the only physician between the mountains . His practice embraced the region now occupied by the Oranges, Bloomfield and Caldwell, New Jersey. During the Rev. War he was a decided friend of his country and influential in inspiring others with his own patriotic sentiments. The British occupied his home and used its contents freely except for his medicines and some freshly baked bread they thought may have been drugged.733
