He was a farmer, and also a wheelwright and cabinet maker. He was an extensive manufacturer of spinning wheels. In 1855 he constructed a boat in which he, with his family, moved from Kentucky to Arkansas, and which they occupied during the entire passage. He settled near Tuckerman, Ark., where he died June 16, 1863. He united with the Methodist Episcopal Church at the age of 26 and his life was that of an earnest Christian. His widow survived him twenty years and died May 28, 1883. Their children were all born in Kentucky, on the old farm of their grandfather, Uzal.7
