He was a graduate of Oberlin College and was City Engineer of Indianapolis from 1850 to 1854. He published the first news paper in the South at the close of the war, the Jackson County News. For the past few years he has lived in Chhicago and was the leader of theorganization to pre-empt the 16,000 acres of land which constituted the bed of Beaver Lake and the Calumet swamp lands.7062
