In May 1805 Byram Condit and his family of 5 or 6 children came to Kentucky escorting his mother back from New Jersey. He settled on the Green River in Ohio Co., Kentucky in a village called Point Pleasant. Byram established a ferry on the Green River known at this day as “Condit’s Ferry” at the Condit settlement. About the year 1817 or 18 he was drowned at his own ferry on a stormy night attempting to cross the river.39

June 9, 1807 Ohio Co., Kentucky Court Proceedings: “On motion of Byram Conduit, ordered that a ferry be established across Green River nearly opposite Cornwall’s Landing on lands of said Conduit. Whereupon the said Conduit together with Uzal Conduit his security, entered into bond in the penalty of 20L conditioned as the law directs. Ordered that John D. Coffee and Bryam Condit may receive four pence 1/2 for the ferrage of a man and horse over their ferry and nine pence of man and hourse, and no more.”4511
