Newspaper article, Thursday 11/13/1947, GOLDEN WEDDING CELEBRATED BY MR. AND MRS. WM. ULTICAN, SR.
Hagerman - A reception was held at the Reorganized L.D.S. church Tuesday evening, Nov. 4, in honor of Mr. and Mrs. William Ultican Sr., on their Golden Wedding anniversary. The program included a piano solo, Mrs. Leonard Condit; a vocal solo, "I Love You Truly," by Mrs. Harold Condit; clarinet solos, Tom Ultican, accompanied by Mrs. Howard Carlson; reading, Silas Condit.
The couple renewed their wedding vows with Elder Lysle Gilmore officiating. Mrs. Howard Carlson played the wedding march. Mrs. Ultican was given in marriage by her son, Mike Ultican. She was preceded to the alter by her daughter, Mrs. Hershel French, where they met the minister, the bridegroom and the best man, William Ultican Jr. Following the ceremony refreshments were served in the church dining hall, decorated with white and gold streamers, chrysanthemums and gold candles. The table was covered with a lace cloth, the centerpiece being a three-tiered wedding cake decorated in white and gold. Seated with the honored couple were three other couples who have celebrated Golden Weddings: Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Condit, Mr. and Mrs. William Drake, Mr. and Mrs. William Glauner.
Silas Condit acted as toastmaster. The numbers given included an original poem by Ervin Condit; song, William Drake; a short talk by Mr. Glaunder; several songs by Mr. and Mrs. Tom Ultican. Mrs. Ultican related several experiences. Mrs. Leon Ultican was in charge of seating; Mrs. Mike Ultican the guest book; Mrs. William Ultican Jr., the serving. The guest book was signed by 73 persons. The couple received lovely gifts.
Mr. Ultican was born in Chippewa Falls, Wis., and Mrs. Ultican in Port Huron, Mich. They were married in Cloquet, Minn, Nov. 4, 1947 (incorrect date in newspaper). They lived in Wisconsin until 1908, when they moved to Blackfoot, Idaho. In November 1916, they came to Hagerman, where they bought a home. They lived here until the spring of 1947 when they sold their farm to their son George and moved to Independence, Mo. They have been visiting here since August.
The couple have had 11 children, three of whom died in infancy. The family includes William Ultican Jr., and George Ultican of Tuttle; Mrs. Hershel French, Wendell; Tom Ultican of Rupert; Mike Ultican of King Hill; Leon Ultican of Chico, Calif.; Mrs. Ella Winholtz, Independence, Mo.; Mrs. Ernestine Reimer of Clinton, Ia. The family were all present except Mrs. Winholtz and Mrs. Reimer. Mr. and Mrs. Ultican left Friday for their home in Independence.
