Silas joined a military company and passed through all the grades from private to Lieut. Col. He was commissioned Major in 1806 and Lieut. Col. in command of the 1st Rgt. Morris Co. brigade Nov. 28, 1809. He retired in 1815.971
He died on the way to visit his son, Samuel, who was living in Jersey Township, Licking Co., Ohio. He never arrived, dying in the next county east.2019
