Letter written to Miss Eva Parks.
Logan, Iowa February 29 1916
Miss Eva Parks Bushnell, South Dakota
My Dear Cousin. Your Kind letter received several days ago—and I thank you for the same—Of course—in a way you are a perfect stranger to me—but I knew your Father [Martin Luther Parks] and so long and pleasantly in my younger days—that I have a Very Kindly feeling for their children and I feel that I almost know you—I am getting to be quite an old man—will be 73 July 1 next if I should live until that date—and naturally have not many years to stay but while I do stay I want Keep track of my relatives if I can. I have
had I suppose as much happiness through my life as most people—(and as much perhaps—as I was entitled to) I think the happy-go-lucky days of my boyhood and Early life in Wisconsin where your Father and Mother, your Uncle Philetus—and in fact all of your Father and Mother’s families lived—were the
happiest days of my life, and I spent many a pleasant hour thinking of the times of long ago in good old Wisconsin. My first wife—(and the Mother of 3 boys—and 2 girls—and all living—the boys all married—and with children—the girls—they are called Old-maids now not married and both living in Omaha.) was a girl Chum of your Mother and I have a little old Tin type picture of them taken together in their girlhood days—There I will stop now—When I commenced this letter I had no idea—of my thoughts—rambling off so—Clora [Clara] My present wife—said you had a sister Maggie—and wondered which had become of her—When you write me again—Will you please give us a history of your Father’s family—Their names—how many—how many living—and where they are—If you go to Idaho—you will please give my best wishes to your Uncle and Aunt John H. and Frances and your Uncle Albert. Clora and myself—while not very frisky—are in as good health as we could expect at our age in life—I will not write more at this time—and hope that this may find all my friends and relatives in South Dak—Well and happy. Please write again and I will try
and do better next time I write
With Love C. L. Hyde [son of Parley Hyde and Julia Harris]
