Notes for Jeptha Condit
Was probably born after his brother Jonathan as his father’s will lists them in the order Isaac, Simon, Jonathan, and then Jeptha.
Jeptha is listed on the “List of the Rateable Proper” in the Township of Orange for for the following years:
1820 Condit, Jeptha Mountain Land 20, Cattle 2, tax $1.19
1821 Condit, Jeptha died estate Mountain Land 20, tax $.50
1822 Condit, Jeptha, estate of Mountain Land 20, Cattle 1, tax $.60
Jotham H. Condit’s book dated Aug 6, 1882 , page 131, “Jeptha Bo about 1766 or 7 died from kick of a horse 1820/24” Based on the “Rateable’s” he probably died in 1820.
Supposedly served in the Revolutionary War as a private although not listed under Jeptha in "Official Register of the Officers and Men of New Jersey in the Revolutionary War, compiled by William S. Stryker, revised by James Campbell, 1967." Could possibly be Japhia, Japhsah, or Japtha. Listed in Captain Squires Company, History of Essex & Hudson County, pg 34. Pension application 5975??
