55Mom always said she was born on a house boat on the White River and that Augusta was just the closest town to where she was born. She also always said she was 1/16 or 1/32 Cherokee.
Mom was working at Hart’s bakery in San Francisco right after David was born and Aunt Violet was taking care of him until she went to Hawaii. (per Violet 6/2/2004)
At about the age of 15 Mom went to live with Maggie Morton and lived with her until she was married in 1944. Maggie had a daughter Monnie and son Hubert who was killed in WW2 in the Pacific. Sheldon and Lucy’s kids always called Maggie Grandmother and Monnie Aunt. They were special people who helped Mom grow up. Dad actually met Mom at Grandmother Morton’s house in New Jersey after being told to stop and visit by Eunice Condit, Mom’s Graceland roommate.
Lived in Poinsett Co., Arkansas in 1935 and in Union Twp, Sharp Co., Arkansas in 1940 with Maggie Morton.

Sheldon met Lucy in December 1943 in Jersey City, New Jersey at the home of Maggie Morton while attending a military school in New York. His sister, Eunice, had told him to stop in and see her Graceland College room mate while on the east coast, Lucy was home for Christmas break from Graceland, they must have had a fine time together as six months later they were married in Sacramento, California by Myron Schall.
